The annual Carleton Ravens varsity awards dinner and banquet was held March 31, and the following players came home with the hardware.

Male Athlete of the Year: Tyson Hinz (men’s basketball)
A second-year forward born and raised in Ottawa, Tyson Hinz has quickly become the star player on an already impressive men’s basketball team. He led the Ravens in both points-per-game and rebounds-per-game, along with leading the entire Ontario University Athletics (OUA) in field goal percentage. This award adds to his impressive trophy case, which includes OUA East first all-star team member, Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) player of the year and CIS Final 8 MVP.

Female Athlete of the Year: Alyson Bush (women’s basketball)
Alyson Bush led the OUA in assists with 4.38 per game and was second in steals with a total of 71. The Ottawa native was also named an OUA East second team all-star and led the Ravens to the OUA Final and CIS Final 8 for the first time in their history.

Outstanding Graduating Male Athlete: Karl Wasslen (men’s soccer)
Wasslen has been a stalwart on the men’s soccer team for the past five years. This season, he was named an OUA East first team all-star for the third time in his career after posting 11 shutouts and a sparkling goals-against average of just 0.36, after coming back from injury.

Outstanding Graduating Female Athlete: Kristen Marson (women’s hockey)
Kristen Marson took home this honour after five years of service patrolling the blue line on the women’s hockey team. The native of Ajax, Ont. is the team leader for most assists and games played in a Ravens jersey. She was named to the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec second all-star team.

Coach of the Year: Taffe Charles (women’s basketball)
Taffe Charles led the Ravens to their first OUA East title and their first-ever spot in the CIS Final 8 championship this season. Under his guidance, the women Ravens put up an impressive 18-4 record this season, which included a 14-game winning streak.
