The unofficial results for the 2018 Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA) election were presented to The Charlatan by Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nada Ibrahim. 9,564 votes were cast (34.9 per cent of the undergraduate body), marking a small decrease from the 2017 elections (37.2 per cent of the undergraduate body).
For a candidate to win on a ranked ballot, they must achieve 50 per cent or more of the cast votes. If that does not occur, the candidate with the least amount of votes is eliminated and students’ votes are transferred according to their second ranked candidate.
This year’s election marked the first time that ranked voting in the form of the ‘matrix’ system was used.
