The unofficial results from the Graduate Students’ Association (GSA) election were released online on March 22.
This year saw only one slate—Elevate—running to fill the five executive positions.
President-elect Jay Ramasubramanyam received the highest number of ‘yes’ votes out of all the executive candidates, with 206. He is the current vice-president (academic) with the GSA.
The position of vice-president (finance) was won by Ashley Courchene, who received 195 ‘yes’ votes and 36 ‘no’ votes.
Miranda Leibel will take on the position of vice-president (operations), as she received 188 ‘yes’ votes and 42 ‘no’ votes.
The vice-president (external) position will be filled by Helyeh Doutaghi, who received 187 ‘yes’ votes. Doutaghi received the highest number of ‘no’ votes out of all the executive candidates, with 45.
Trycia Bazinet will take on the role of vice-president (academic), having received 194 ‘yes’ votes and 36 ‘no’ votes.
Alexa Dodge, Hemant Gupta, and Tariqa Tandon were all elected to seats on the university’s Senate, while Melissa Conte and Bridgette Desjardins won seats on the Graduate Faculty Board.
Graduate students were also asked to vote in a referendum on whether or not they supported creating a levy of $1.31 per semester (tied to the Consumer Price Index) to support the Carleton University Student Emergency Response Team (CUSERT).
The referendum passed with 173 ‘yes’ votes. There were 62 ‘no’ votes, two spoiled ballots, and five unmarked ballots.
The results will remain unofficial until the appeals period closes on March 26 and until they are ratified by the GSA council at a meeting on April 9.
