The United slate is appealing the results of the Rideau River Residence Association (RRRA) election held Tuesday, which was won by team A New RRRA, according to chief electoral officer David Valentin.

The United slate filed the appeal yesterday, citing four fresh violations awarded to A New RRRA after the conclusion of the election, Valentin said.

The United slate, previously known as Undivided, won the first RRRA election. Results of that election were thrown out after the disqualification of another slate, Rez-Solution, was overturned. A new election was called in which Rez-Solution, under the new name A New RRRA, won.

All four violations were given on the basis of harassment through Facebook posts and text messages, according to the official rulings of the RRRA elections office.

Valentin said A New RRRA is appealing these violations.

A decision must be made by the RRRA constitutional board regarding United’s appeal within 14 days of notification of the appeal, according to RRRA president Omar Bainto.

He said the board must meet before then to decide but no date has been set yet.

“They traditionally only meet on Thursdays,” Valentin said. “My understanding is that they would probably meet this Thursday.”

Valentin added that A New RRRA has asked to be present at the appeal hearing but will not be allowed as per the constitution. Instead, he said he will be there as the defendant.

United was also given a violation after the election due to having an unregistered volunteer campaigning for them, according to the official ruling.
