For $3, students could lob a pie at prominent members of Carleton’s student community as part of Carleton Unicef’s second annual “Pie in the Face” fundraiser for health and education for children in Guatemala March 2.
The victims included executives from Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA), candidates from last month’s CUSA elections, and Oliver’s and Rooster’s employees, according to Carleton Unicef director of events Julie Savard-Shaw.
“We came up with the idea after the big rivalry between the two CUSA slates,” Savard-Shaw said. “We thought it would be an amazing, fun way to raise money.”
Every year the fundraiser supports a new campaign, and this year’s focus is health and education for Guatemalan children, Savard-Shaw explained.
“[The campaign provides] funding for clinics in communities [as well as] funding for after-school programs so that kids are off the streets and they can get help with their homework,” Savard-Shaw said, also adding that the funds from this fundraiser will help provide children with notebooks and other school supplies as well as vaccines.
