Grateful for the beautiful weather, Carleton’s co-ed cheerleader team held a car wash fundraiser on Sept. 20 to raise funds for their upcoming trip to Toronto, where they will compete in a national cheerleading competition.

The car wash took place at the Petro Canada gas station located at the corner of Bronson and Gladstone.

According to co-head coach Meagan Polisak, the team has been doing similar fundraisers all summer so they can lower team fees.

The latest fundraiser was the “most successful” one so far with the team raising more than $700 and washing more than 200 cars, Polisak said.

Most customers paid somewhere between $10 and $25 for their car wash, though there was no minimum payment required.

John Lutgen, who had his bike washed by the team, said that in addition to enjoying the fact that cheerleaders were washing his car, he was also quite impressed with the quality of the washing and thought the event was a smart way to raise money.

He said he didn’t initially support the Carleton cheerleading team, but now he definitely does.

To increase their customer tally, some members of the team went to nearby intersections with banners and posters to advertise the event.

Honks resonated through the streets every so often as one of the banners read: “Honk if you love cheerleaders!”

The National Power Cheerleading Athletics competition will be held in early December and Polisak said she has high hopes for the team this year.

“I am quite confident the team will not let us down,” she said.
