Rooster’s Coffeehouse will be selling SuzyQ donuts in a new partnership with the Hintonburg-based shop.
Justin Marshall, assistant manager of Rooster’s, said the donuts have been successful and more than 300 were sold since the official launch on Sept. 26.
SuzyQ is a popular independent donut shop established in 2012.
Susan Hamer, owner of SuzyQ donuts, said she approached Rooster’s and agreed to distribute her products on campus because the demand would be high. Algonquin College will also be selling the donuts in one of their campus stores.
Rod Castro, the Carleton University Students’ Association business manager, said Rooster’s purchases the donuts from SuzyQ and sells them at the coffee shop for full profit.
“SuzyQ started a wholesale business and we sell it with a markup,” he said.
The donuts are $2.55 plus tax and include flavours such as sugar munkki, dirty chocolate, london fog, raspberry cassis, and maple bacon.
One flavour was renamed “Toasted Coconut and Lime” after complaints. It was previously named “Kaffir Lime” until Castro was notified that “kaffir” is considered an insensitive racial slur.
“Many people weren’t completely educated on the meaning of that word,” Castro said, adding the names all came from SuzyQ.
He said the donut continues to be sold at Rooster’s and SuzyQ has been advised to rename the product.
