CIBC has donated $500,000 to the Sprott School of Business for a new bursary program, according to a university press release.

The bursary will be open to students graduating high school who demonstrate financial need.

“Through this gift, CIBC is helping Sprott students realize their dreams of becoming the next generation of business leaders and entrepreneurs,” said Jerry Tomberlin, Dean of the Sprott School of Business, in a press release.

The funds will go toward multiple $5,000 scholarships that will be open to high school students enrolling full-time in the commerce or international business program at Carleton.

Eligibility for the scholarships will vary by academic and community service merits as well as the demonstrated financial need.

“Providing access to education is a big part of CIBC’s commitment to building a better future for our kids and our communities,” said Grant Rasmussen, Region Head at CIBC, in the same release.

Earlier in the year, Sprott announced a $10-million donation by the Wesley and Mary Nicol Charitable Foundation towards a new building.
