Seeded 13 out of 14, the Carleton women’s ultimate team fought to a well-earned sixth-place finish and proved to be one of the biggest upsets at the Canadian University Ultimate Championships held Oct. 16-18.

“We played fantastic,” said head coach Onita Basu. “We were a total upset in our pool.”

The Ravens went 4-2 in round play, defeating teams like University of Western Ontario and the University of Toronto, whom they had previously lost to at the Eastern Championships. The team only lost to University of Ottawa, who ended up winning the tournament, and the University of Montreal.

“We were seeing stuff from our players that we didn’t even know they had,” said captain Paula Saliba.

The Ravens then faced the University of Guelph Gryphons in the quarterfinals but unfortunately fell short.

This placed them in the consolation-round against University of British Columbia who they battled hard against for a win.

Unfortunately, they couldn’t tame the University of Saskatchewan Huskies and lost, giving them an overall sixth-place finish.
