India and the Netherlands were neighbours in the Atrium this week as the International Student Services Office held its annual Through a Global Lens Photography Competition.

From Feb. 8-11, original photographs taken around the world by Carleton students, staff and faculty were numbered and displayed in four categories: people, architecture, nature, landscapes and globalization. Visitors could vote for their favourite in each category.

“The point of the competition is experiences Carleton staff and students have had abroad,” said ISSO peer helper Nicole Ward, one of the organizers of the competition. “The pictures are supposed to communicate that kind of experience.”

The top five photos in each category, as voted by the public, will be announced Feb. 12, said ISSO program co-ordinator Maria Garcia. Five judges will pick the top three photos in each of the four categories, she added, and the winners should be notified Feb. 26.
