Ryerson University has unofficially set a new world record for having the most people play maracas at once.
Students were handed maracas as they entered the Ryerson compound Sept. 1, gathering around as they waited for the music to start, according to a report from CTV Toronto.
The record was broken by 567 people who shook their maracas for two minutes straight to the song “La Bamba,” according to a Ryerson press release.
The current official record, established March 15, 2006, is held by a group of 407 people from Manchester, UK, according to the Guinness World Records website.
Ryerson president Sheldon Levy and councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam were also present, as they waited for the students to arrive, according to CTV Toronto.
This isn’t the first time Ryerson has tried to break a world record during their frosh week.
In fact, it has become a tradition. Previous record attempts have included the largest beat box ensemble, biggest dance class, and largest plastic sword fight, according to the press release.
The maracas record should be confirmed within the next few weeks by Guinness World Records, according to the press release.
