This year’s Rideau River Residence Association (RRRA) elections will take place later than usual, but still fall within the limits set by the association.

According to previous articles in the Charlatan, last year’s RRRA elections took place on Feb. 14 and 15. The 2015-16 election took place even earlier, with voting days falling on Jan. 15 and 16.

In 2016-17, however, the election results were not released until March 23.

According to RRRA’s chief electoral officer (CEO) Kieran Moloney, this year’s election “is not late at all.”

RRRA’s constitution states that: “It shall be the duty of the CEO to schedule the RRRA General Elections before the 31st of March each year.”

Moloney also said there’s been a great influx of candidates interested in running in the RRRA elections.  Their names will not be released until the campaign period begins on March 4.

He said he believes the elections have been advertised far enough in advance as the writ was disclosed prior to the start of reading week, allowing interested parties enough time to apply as a nominee. He said he does not expect a byelection to be necessary.

Voting will take place via online ballots on March 9.
