The Rideau River Residence Association (RRRA) passed their 2017-18 budget at its meeting on Dec. 7.
RRRA was forced to delay passing the budget at their last meeting after questions regarding money allotted to executive tuitions were raised.
During the November meeting, Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA) president Zameer Masjedee questioned why RRRA had budgeted $43,509 for their tuition credits, a number he said should have been much lower.
RRRA executives receive compensation from Carleton for 1.5 credits, as per the association’s bylaws.
When RRRA was unable to explain the amount allocated for executive tuition, council voted unanimously to postpone the budget vote.
At the Dec. 7 meeting, RRRA president Hyder Naqvi explained that the money in question covered the cost of both tuition and residence fees, whereas it was initially thought just to cover the cost of tuition.
“There was no discrepancy there,” Naqvi said. “It was good that we did look into this a little closer.”
The budget passed with 25 in favour, zero votes against, and three abstentions.
