Carleton has just added an east-west underpass to the River Building, which will create more room for green space along the Rideau River, according to an Aug. 18 news release.

“We’re very pleased to unveil the new underpass. It’s one more design triumph for the River Building, which will be a centerpiece on the Carleton campus,” said president Roseann Runte in a news release.

The creation of the underpass involved “removing the original site of University Drive’s east- and west-bound portion located at the south end of the campus,” according to the news release.

The underpass runs through the building’s first floor and has been in operation since Aug. 19.

The Waterfront Project makes Carleton the first Canadian university to complete an important construction project with support from both the federal and provincial stimulus funding program, according to a Jan. 18 news release.

The energy efficient, 140,000-square-foot River Building will house the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs, the School of Journalism and Communication and the School of Public Policy and Administration, according to the Aug. 18 news release.
