Residents of Glengarry House were evacuated Oct. 28 after a gas leak in the Residence Commons construction zone, according to the department of university safety.

“[A] construction crew was working in the area of the [Residence Commons] expansion there and hit the dead end of a gas line, said Allan Burns, Carleton’s director of university safety. There was a gas leak that came from that. [Ottawa Fire Services] responded, as well as our officers, [and] the area was cordoned off.

There was no immediate risk from the gas leak, but residents of Glengarry House, as well as students and staff in Residence Commons, were evacuated as a precaution, Burns said.

Andres Gallacher, a first-year global issues student, said he was in Residence Commons when the fire alarm was pulled at about 2:45 p.m.

Students were told to wait outside for around 15 minutes before they were allowed to re-enter, Gallacher said.

Just after 3 p.m., the gas leak had been dealt with, according to the department of university safety.
