With construction on Carleton’s new residence building ongoing, Lennox and Addington residents are starting the new year living in less than ideal conditions.
According to Rideau River Residence Association (RRRA) president Kaisha Thompson, only floors two through six of the new residence are currently housing students.
Construction on the building begins at 7 a.m. daily, and students living in Lennox and Addington will not have access to the tunnels or laundry facilities until the first floor is completed.
Thompson said that while the rest of the building is set to be completed by Oct. 28, students have been understanding and “really positive” about the whole situation.
“RRRA hosts a residence issues committee that I’m chair of and we’ve had no complaints filed so far,” she said. “[Students] are just excited about living in a building that isn’t as old as Glengarry.”
Jon Baten, a first-year political science student, said that even with the ongoing construction, he finds Lennox and Addington to be just as good as any other residence.
“There’s the ups and the downs,” said the new Lennox and Addington occupant. “Some of the walls aren’t painted and the pipes aren’t clean yet . . . but the [financial] compensation makes up for it because it makes it a little bit cheaper than the other [residences].”
“It’s just like another res except for a few little things. It’s liveable.”
