Carleton’s women’s rugby team fell 91-0 to the University of Ottawa (U of O) Gee-Gees Wednesday night at MNP Park.
The game started out in U of O’s favour as they scored first, and are ranked third in the country.
The Gee-Gees continued to dominate as they extended the lead to 19 points ten minutes into the match. The Gee-Gees didn’t let up as the Ravens were down 36-0 by twenty minutes in, and by halftime, faced a 69-0 deficit.
To the several hundred spectators, the game may have appeared one-sided. Gee-gees fifth-year captain Irene Patrinos contributed several tries during the match, and the Ottawa team controlled the duration of the game.
Despite the difficult loss, the team left the pitch with their heads held high.
Fifth-year Briana Yerbury and second-year Bailey Jones were named Raven Players of the Game.
The Ravens are now 0-3 while the Gee-Gees have improved to a 3-0 record. The two teams now sit on opposite side of the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec with the Ravens in last place while the Gee-Gees sit just behind the Concordia Stingers.
The Ravens will host Laval at MNP Park on Saturday, Sept. 26.
