The Ravens travelled to Northern Ontario for two matches against Laurentian University’s Voyageurs and Nipissing University’s Lakers.
The Ravens kicked off the weekend with a win over the Voyageurs with two goals from Montreal native Andrew Bryan. Hard offence from the kickoff led the Ravens to notch a goal in the first minute of play with a goal from Andrew Bryan through a skillful flick from Walker Smith off of a throw-in.
Bryan was able to slip another one through the Voyageur’s keeper in the 32nd minute, connecting on a cross that he hammered into the net for his fourth goal of the season.
The Ravens dominated in the first half, outshooting the Voyageurs 4-1. Laurentian rallied for the second half, showing no signs of folding. Voyageur Mackenzy Kropa capitalized on a turnover in the midfield in the 47th minute, opening the score for Laurentian.
The Ravens, with a one-goal lead, managed to hold their own against relentless attack of the Voyageurs. Carleton’s keeper, Felix Daigle was essential in maintaining the Ravens’ lead with some stellar saves.
On Sunday, the Ravens took on Nipissing University’s Lakers hoping to continue their win streak in North Bay.
The tenacious offence that has allowed Carleton to rack up four wins in a row was not apparent on Sunday’s match. Although the competition was hard fought, neither team was able to muscle up a goal.
“A good amount of credit should go to Nipissing’s keeper (Grainger Munroe) who controlled his box quite well and made a few big saves. The Lakers battled hard all game and didn’t make any opportunities easy on us,” said Ravens captain Michael Calof.
The Lakers were successful this time around in dulling Carleton’s offence after losing to the Ravens 3-0 in their first time meeting on the pitch this season.
Nipissing’s keeper Grainger Munro kept the score even with some big saves as the Ravens out shot the Lakers 9-5.
With neither team being able to conjure up any goals, the score closed 0-0.
Concluding the weekend, Calof said that the Ravens know they have to work harder and smarter as a team.
Up next, Carleton challenges Ryerson who leads the East with two points over Carleton.
“We have to build upon the pieces of success we’ve had so far. We will need all 22 guys to be switched on all this week to be able to prepare for a tough road trip coming up,” Calof said.
The team will travel to Toronto to take on Ryerson University on Sept. 26 at 3:15 p.m. and University of Toronto on Sept. 27 also at 3:15 pm.
