As her remarkable collegiate athletic career comes to a close, Rachel Baxter of the Carleton women’s water polo team has been named the Charlatan’s Female Athlete of the Year.
The season was like any other for the fifth-year law major from Ottawa. It was a season where she once again dominated the competition and led her team to the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) championship game.

For five years, Baxter has been an offensive dynamo for the Ravens, leading the team in scoring every year.

Since her arrival as a freshman, finding the net has never been a problem for Baxter.
In her first year Baxter scored 22 goals, good enough for third place in the OUA, and improved on that until her senior year when she scored 34, second in the league.

In recognition of her accomplishments in 2008, Baxter was named an OUA All-Star; the fifth straight time she has been named to the team.

The 2008 season was one where the team cruised through the regular season, losing only once to the University of Toronto and finishing with a 7-1 record.

In the playoffs, Baxter continued to dominate, scoring nine goals in two games.
However, the play of the living legend would prove to be not enough, as the team was defeated in the OUA championships once again by the University of Toronto.
Baxter has accomplished much during her career at Carleton, including two OUA championships and numerous other accolades.

Her contributions to both Carleton University and the sport of water polo over the course of her career have earned her a place as one of the OUA’s most dominant players to dive into the pool.
