After an 18-day strike, advance voting polls have been installed in colleges across Ontario for the Oct. 6 provincial election.

“Students are relieved to know the strike is over,” said Brian Costantini, president of the College Student Alliance (CSA), in a news release.

Polling stations were originally going to be relocated in order “to ensure that the security, integrity and accessibility of the electoral process is preserved for all electors,” according to a press release.

With the strike now a thing of the past, students “will now have access to all services,” according to the CSA.

“We’re pleased to once again be providing advance polls on college campuses in Ontario,” said Greg Essensa, Ontario’s chief electoral officer.

“On-campus voting is one of the many ways that we’re making voting easier and more convenient for the 40th provincial general election.”

The advance polling stations are open Sept. 28-30.

Costantini told the
Northumberland View he hopes the move will improve student voter turnout.

"Student associations are working tirelessly to ensure students are properly informed, and that students take the time to cast a ballot this provincial election," Costantini said.
