Pierre Alain will no longer coach the Carleton Ravens women’s hockey team. Carleton University thanked Alain for his service and announced it would begin looking for a new head coach on Friday.
The university did not indicate under what circumstances Alain left the team. The Charlatan was unable to reach Alain for comment.
The Ravens hired Alain in 2015 after the team won just one game in its 2014-15 season. Alain tried to build a winning program, but despite two player cycles over seven seasons, their team’s performance did not improve.
The team’s best season was in 2016 when players won 5-15-0, contrasted with 2019 when they were 2-14-4. The team finished last the first six seasons under Alain and second to last this year.
The team’s motivation appeared to be at an all-time low this season. Whenever the team trailed by even one goal, players hung their heads and the coaches mostly sat silent.
In Carleton Athletics’ media release, Jennifer Brenning, Carleton assistant vice-president (recreation and athletics), thanked Alain for his service to Athletics.“I have a lot of respect for Pierre and what he has achieved as a well-respected member of the university sport community,” Brenning said. “We thank him for his contributions to the program over the past eight years.”
Carleton has begun its search for a new coach to breathe new life into the program.
