Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Ottawa’s downtown core on May 29 in solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. This event was one of several pro-Palestinian protests held in Ottawa within the past month. Tensions are still high in the region after a ceasefire was reached by Palestinian militant group Hamas and the Israeli government on May 21.

To mark the beginning of the demonstration, protesters gathered at the Canadian Tribute to Human Rights on Elgin Street. Protesters demanded the Canadian government end ongoing arms deals with the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and formally recognize Palestine as a state.

Protesters marched to the United States Embassy on Sussex Drive to protest the United States’ support of Israel. Demonstrators ended the protest and march with speeches and an evening prayer outside of the Israeli Embassy on O’Connor Street.
