A report released Oct. 7 rating universities’ sustainability for 2010 gave Carleton a B- overall, an improvement from the D- rating the university achieved in the 2009 report card. Carleton was given high scores in the administration and food and recycling categories, while receiving a D rating in the climate change and energy, and shareholder engagement.

Carleton students instil change in their own backyards

The youth of our generation are often stereotyped as lazy and lacking compassion.

But don’t tell this to the more than 230 Carleton students who stepped up Sept. 26 to lend 23 Ottawa-based organizations a helping hand through the Carleton Serves program.

The tasks involved anything from sorting perishable goods to collecting garbage off the streets – all with the goal of elping the local community.

Since its creation three years ago, the program has more than doubled in size.

Greening policy

Building a sustainable future was the topic on the table Sept. 25 as local youth gathered at Ottawa City Hall for the second annual SPECTRUM conference organized by Carleton students.

Entitled “Student Action for Sustainability,” the event brought together approximately 140 college and university students for a day of seminars addressing the Ottawa’s environmental concerns.
