She wants to be your new best friend, that is, your new best friend who sold out her first headlining tour in mere minutes and is idolized by girls all over the world.

The sold out stadium at Scotiabank Place was ringing from the screaming fans at Taylor Swift's concert on May 20th, all eager to finally watch the country musician in action.

The show opened with Gloriana and Kellie Pickler, both delivering a variety of country music that was both entertaining and full of talent, a good lead in for the headliner.

After opening with a cheesy, yet stunning rendition of her hit song, You Belong With Me, Swift ran to the edge of the stage to greet her fans. She was truly pleased to see the crowd as she took a moment to stare out in amazement  to a chorus of chatting ear-piercing screams of admiration.

When she greeted the audience, she spoke the them like she was talking with a stadium full of her closest friends. She said how happy she was to be back in Canada.

“Ontario, I love you like I love sparkly dresses. I love you like I love burning my ex-boyfriend’s pictures. I love you as much as I love making songs about love stories,” said Swift.

Throughout the concert, Swift displayed incredible vocal range and danced as if she was having the time of her life, swinging her curly blonde locks and showing off her sparkly attire.

Swift only had one misstep. It happened during her performance of Forever And Always. Swift fell to the ground while turning.  The audience gasped as they recognized the thud of the microphone hitting the floor. Yet Swift got right back up and continued singing, unaffected.

A highlight of the show for many adoring fans was Swift’s sudden appearance in the crowd during her performance of Hey Stephen.

Her numerous hugs to fans were time consuming, but uplifting and genuine.

Swift, known for her reputation-ruining songs about her ex-boyfriends, was chatty with the audience as she explained the reasoning behind many of her popular songs.

She played almost all of her crowd-pleasing favourites such as the upbeat Our Song, the acoustic Teardrops on My Guitar, and her first single, Tim McGraw.

Many times throughout the show, Swift stopped once again to take in the packed arena, at one point even removing her earpiece. At the end of the concert, with the utmost sincerity, Taylor thanked her guests.

“Ottawa, I hope you know how happy you have made me tonight.”

She was a hit because of her music, but more importantly, it was her genuine appreciation for her fans that earned her Ottawa’s enduring love.
