Carleton Ravens football team fell to their third straight loss on homecoming night against the Waterloo Warriors, 34-24.
Despite another poor performance, quarterback Tanner DeJong and running back Nathan Carter said the team is still playing fairly well.
“I think we really need to focus on putting a full game together … it shows we spark and have really nice drive, but it’s just the consistency we’re missing,” said DeJong.
“As a team we need to learn that just because we’re down, doesn’t mean we’re out,” said Carter. “We just keep fighting, keep fighting. When we start to pick it up, the score shows for itself.”
Though some players continue to remain positive, fixing things in their defensive line is a major priority according to linebacker Jack Cassar.
“Our biggest issue was in the back end,” explained Cassar. “We had some blown coverages that we need to fix up from next week.”
“Playing on defence, it’s not about one player. It’s about a system. The twelve guys need to be on the same page, the twelve guys need to be accountable and do their job,” he said.
Looking ahead to their next match against the Toronto Varsity Blues, the veteran players are asking for the rookies to step up and are confident they will do so.
“We need to get in the film of it more. We need some younger guys to step up because we’re thin on numbers right now,” said Cassar. “At the end of the day I think we’ll be ready to go for next week.”
Another issue the team needs to work on is controlling their emotions when they’re not doing well on the field, explained Saint-Vilien.
Carter was another to touch on this problem, saying it’s important to stay focused.
“There is no other way to play. We need to stay focused as a team,” said Carter.
“We know what we need to get done, so get it done.”
The Ravens return to MNP Park and host the Toronto Varsity Blues on Sept. 28 at 1:00 p.m.
