Carleton men participating in the charity month of Movember got the chance to vie for the title of Mr. Movember Nov. 30 in a competition hosted by the Rideau River Residence Association (RRRA).

Fourth-year law and economics student Kartikay Singh took home the title of Mr. Movember and was awarded an electric razor for having the best moustache at the competition.

Singh said he has enjoyed quite a bit of attention since he stopped shaving — so much so, that he has decided to keep it even a few days after Movember is over.

“I am very proud of it,” Singh said.

He said he feels the experience of raising money for a good cause is fun as well as rewarding.

RRRA president Karim Khamisa and vice-president (programming) George Parry said they created this event in mid-October to celebrate and encourage the growing of moustaches in order to raise awareness for prostate and testicular cancer.

“There has been nothing but positive feedback with regard to the event and it is unique, as it lets many people be creative . . .  and allows people to easily get involved with this cause,” Parry and Khamisa said in an email. “It is amazing that something as simple as growing a moustache can create such awareness.”
