A Canadian military historian says that over the past 75 years, Canada has struggled to tell and truly commemorate its Second World War history.
Tim Cook is a former graduate supervisor in the history department at Carleton University, and the current historian at the Canadian War Museum. This year, Cook released his new book, The Fight for History: 75 Years of Forgetting, Remembering, and Remaking Canada’s Second World War.
In the book, Cook addresses how the memory of the Second World War has shifted throughout Canadian history, how Canada’s story has been forgotten, how veterans have been ignored, and how the stories were eventually reclaimed.
Cook spoke to Charlatan Live about some of the key themes of his book, and why Canadians should continue to commemorate Remembrance Day.
