The Carleton Ravens men’s soccer team entered the 2008 season with high-expectations. With the combination of stellar offense, defense and goaltending, the experienced 2008 side was expected to compete for the OUA championship and have a great chance to win the national championship.

During the regular season, the Ravens had two players that ranked in the top 20 in individual goal scoring. This includes the leader in goals scored, fifth-year player Matthew D’Angelo, who netted 13 goals in just 14 regular season games. With 35 goals as a team, Carleton led the nation in goals.

Carleton ranked second in the OUA in goals allowed, with 10 goals getting passed the team in the regular season. Anchored by two seniors and a third-year player and CIS All-Star Nick Persichino, the men’s side had all of the experience to be a defensive force.

Led by senior Arjun Langford and third-year Karl Wasslen, the Ravens could enter a game with confidence between the pipes. Both goaltenders each recorded six wins and three shutouts.

In the regular season, this team was lights out as they stomped on the competition en route to a 12-1-1 record in the OUA and the number one ranked spot in Canada. However, despite this formidable regular season, the Ravens must feel disappointed with their post-season results with a third place performance in the OUA Championships and a consolation-round victory in the national championships on home field.
