The Carleton Ravens men’s basketball team won both their games Nov. 15-16, facing a tough test against the McMaster University Marauders, before easily dispatching the Brock University Badgers.

After adding these two victories, the Ravens have won their first six games of the regular season.

The game against the Marauders was the closest game the Ravens have had so far in the regular season.

In the first half, the unranked Marauders matched them nearly point for point.

“McMaster’s a pretty good team,” Ravens guard Philip Scrubb said. “We knew they were going to play us tough especially when they were at home. Some of their guys were really making plays on offence and they’re pretty good defensively.”

The Ravens were up 44-42 at halftime.

The Marauders even managed to steal the lead on them during the third quarter.

The Ravens then showed why they are ranked first in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport, when several players stepped up to turn the tide.

Scrubb had an astounding 44 points while sinking several three-pointers in the fourth quarter.

“I was getting a lot of good looks,” Scrubb said. “A game like that is not going to happen very often, but it was a lot of fun.”

His brother, Thomas Scrubb, had a double-double, scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Nathan McCarthy led the Marauders with 13 points and Taylor Black added 12, but the Ravens still pulled through with an 83-72 win.

They faced off against the Badgers in their second game of the weekend.

The Ravens distanced themselves from the Badgers quickly.

After building up a 15-point lead at the end of the first quarter, they dominated the Badgers the rest of the game to win 92-61.

“They’re a pretty young team,” Philip said. “They played really hard. They’re one of the hardest-working teams we’ve played all year.”

Connor Wood led the Ravens with 17 points.

The Scrubb brothers weren’t far behind with Thomas scoring 16 and Philip netting 15.

The Ravens improve to 6-0, while the Badgers fall to 0-6.

After playing their last four games on the road, the Ravens will return to the Ravens’ Nest Nov. 22-23 against the Wilfrid Laurier University Golden Hawks and the University of Waterloo Warriors.

The Golden Hawks have a record of 3-3 and the Warriors are still looking for their first win of the season.

“It’s always good to play at home,” Philip said. “It’s going to be good to come back and play a few tough games here.”
