The Carleton Ravens men’s basketball team won two of three exhibition games Aug. 25-27, led largely in part by the return of Tyson Hinz and Cole Hobin.

After losing 91-81 to the University at Albany Great Danes Aug. 25, the Ravens bounced back to win 80-56 and 78-73 the following two nights against the St. Louis University Billikens.

Hinz, a third-year forward, and veteran guard Hobin were both playing for Team Canada at the 26th Summer Universiade in Shenzhen Aug. 12-23, and missed the Ravens’ first four exhibition games versus National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) opponents.

“I think no matter what team you play on, if you regain two key players like [Hinz] and [Hobin], you’re bound to be that much better,” rookie forward Justin Shaver said.

Hinz put up a total of 61 points throughout the weekend, while Hobin notched 14.

Second-year guard Philip Scrubb was also a standout for the Ravens. He scored 22 points against the Great Danes, and tallied 24 points on the way to a 78-73 victory against the Billikens Aug. 28.

The two wins improved the Ravens’ record to 3-4 against NCAA teams this pre-season. They face Niagara University Sept. 2, and wrap up NCAA play Sept. 8 against the University of California Santa Barbara.
