The Carleton Student Engineering Society (CSES) held a meeting Oct. 7 to discuss renovations to the student-run study lounge McCoy’s.
CSES vice-president (academic) Adam Mikolajczak said summer 2014 is the earliest possible start date to ensure studying students are not interrupted.
He said the decision will be discussed in detail and finalized at the CSES general meeting in January.
One reason for the renovation is to address how well the space is currently being used.
Currently the lounge has desks for individual work, two large tables, and a blackboard for group work.
Mikolajczak said data is being collected to help design the layout that would best suit the room. A week of data has been collected so far, he said, and they will be doing more research.
He said two basic layouts have been generated.
One would focus the space on individual work, increasing the number of desks to 29. The other would break the space into two offices which could be rented out on a long-term basis to groups, and would include a storage room.
There was talk at the meeting of potentially contacting an architecture class for help on the room design. Mikolajczak said it was “a very interesting” idea.
