The Carleton Ravens women’s hockey team was shutout 3-0 by the McGill Martlets Oct. 30 at the Ice House, despite a solid performance by second-year goaltender Tamber Tisdale.

Ravens head coach Shelley Coolidge said Tisdale had an “outstanding” game and looked “confident” on the ice, but her efforts weren’t enough to fend off the defending Canadian Interuniversity Sport champions.

The Martlets won the opening faceoff and wasted no time putting pressure on Tisdale, but when the Martlets received a two-minute penalty, the Ravens attempted to seize the opportunity with a power play goal.

But despite the man advantage, it was the Ravens who found themselves on the defence. Tisdale denied a late-period rush by the Martlets, keeping the score locked at 0 with three big saves.

The Ravens began the second period with a breakaway, followed a power play in which they hit the post, but they couldn’t find the back of the net.

Tisdale kicked off the third period with another great save, lunging for the puck, before defender Jasmine Lévesque returned to the penalty box for another two minutes — soon followed by two more Ravens penalties. With just under 10 minutes remaining in the game, the Martlets finally finally managed to beat Tisdale, and they took a 2-0 lead less than two minutes later.

Tisdale said although she felt strong on the ice, she was “disappointed about giving up the two goals in two minutes.”

The Martlets added an empty-netter to seal their 3-0 victory.

Coolidge said she was proud of the team’s play at even strength, but that their penalty killing needs to make some adjustments. Coolidge said the team’s penalties in the second and third periods were the main reason they were outshot 49-21.

The Ravens fell 6-3 to the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees Oct. 29, and while Coolidge said the loss may have had an effect on the result against McGill, she said the “team’s theme is: better, each day.”
