Ottawa police have laid theft charges against a male in relation to two separate thefts on campus, according to Mark Hargreaves, community liaison officer for the department of university safety.

The male, who is not affiliated with Carleton, was involved in two previously reported thefts on July 15, 2013 in the athletics building and Oct. 11, 2013 in Dunton Tower, the university safety press release stated.

“The thefts occurred from items that were left unattended and in unsecured areas,” Hargreaves said.

The first incident included the theft of a bag containing personal items from a locker in the male change room at athletics, Hargreaves said.

The second theft involved two mobile phones from an office on the eighth floor of Dunton Tower, according to a previous press release.

“The subject was identified through the use of our closed-circuit television cameras,” Hargreaves said, adding that the investigation was a joint effort by university safety and the Ottawa Police Service.

Hargreaves said the university’s special constables reviewed the security footage, then sent the information to Ottawa police, who later identified and charged the individual on both counts.
