Everyone dreams of making it big one day. We wish for that moment when we can say to ourselves “I made it,” and take those first steps onto a path of greatness.
Chad Aiken – a.k.a. C-Squeezy – a Carleton University student, is an up-and-coming musician from Toronto who refers to Ottawa as “Parliament City.”
C-Squeezy’s music has recently been noticed by the chief executive officer of record company M.O.E.T Promotions, who is also the director of the Toronto Spring Bling concert.
C-Squeezy is set to open the concert, which features big names like Bow Wow, Omarion and Canadian Idol Elise Estrada, on June 25. This could be his first step to greatness.
C-Squeezy began his musical career in a group called Team Villain and then started to write on his own, “flowing off beats originally produced,” he says.
He recalls that growing up, “I stood out. When I rapped people would tell me to take it farther.”
Building upon his success, C-Squeezy met with a young man named Barbode who pushed his music and lyrics. They began what C-Squeezy calls the “five star family movement,” and Barbode became his manager.
The five star family movement are “all the people who have helped us,” C-Squeezy says.
His friends call him “Mr. Parliament” since he now lives in Ottawa. He says his music is inspired by urban culture and the local culture around him.
Writing all his own music, C-Squeezy says he intends to bring “the vibe back to Parliament!” He says he also hopes to bring realness to hip-hop that he feels is lacking.
Half Jamaican and half Trinidadian, he says he was also very influenced by his father, who was a musician as well, and learned from his accomplishments and mistakes.
When asked about his feelings on the upcoming concert with big music names C-Squeezy explains he never has nerves because “for others to be confident in me, I need to be confident.”
He says he hopes people will lose their voices cheering even before Bow Wow and Omarion come onstage to perform.
C-Squeezy says his greatest inspiration and motivation is his daughter Celydia.
“She inspires me to be in school, to be in music, live life, all right now.”
He says that the meaning of Celydia’s, name is “Chad’s everlasting years down Inspiration Avenue.”
In addition to the upcoming concert, C-Squeezy is working on a song with a local singer for Ottawa radio stations.
