Maddy Porter and Sarah Cooper have been elected to the Board of Governors, Carleton’s highest governing body, according to unofficial voting results.
Porter received 709 votes and Cooper received 435.
The two winning candidates pulled ahead of the six other candidates who were also running in the race. The seats were more contested than they have been since 2011, when six candidates ran, Anne Bauer, secretary of the Board of Governors said.
Porter and Cooper are joining Carleton University Students’ Association’s Alexander Golovko and Graduate Students’ Association’s Kelly Black as student representatives on the board.
As Porter received a higher number of votes, she is entitled to choose to serve a longer term on the board beginning immediately, filling resigned undergraduate Zane Colt’s vacancy.
If Porter does not wish to fill the vacancy, Cooper will fill the position, according to Bauer.
The candidate who does not serve the longer term will assume their role on the board in July.
