I just wanted to draw your attention to an example of an obvious waste of university money.
Every year, each Carleton student receives a registration reminder in the form of a postcard.
And every year, each Carleton student throws away that reminder, almost as soon as they receive it.
Each postcard costs 59 cents to send by mail.
To send one to all 21,732 Carleton undergraduate students, it costs $12,821.88.
This is such a waste of money.
Why do we need a reminder by mail?
We don’t register by mail.
Returning students, who have registered in courses for the previous year, should be aware of when registration is and what they need to do to register.
Students entering first year receive a package with detailed instructions for registering.
A reminder by postcard is not helpful.
Each Carleton student should be anticipating registration and be able to figure out when it is from the website.
