Four years ago, Carleton introduced Lauren to the “closest and most inclusive community” she has ever experienced. Moving to Ottawa from Oshawa, Ontario, her eyes were opened to a new type of diversity—one that is appreciative of and celebrates individuals for their uniqueness and experiences.
“I wanted nothing more than to be a part of it all, to embrace Carleton for all it had to offer.”
Lauren immediately became involved with campus life, starting with philanthropy. She supported numerous non-profit initiatives and became involved with prominent campus organizations like Relay for Life. She also became an active member of the Greek community.
As a member of Alpha Pi Phi, Lauren excelled in a number of roles, from recruitment, to membership development, to her current role as vice-president for the Carleton chapter.
Lauren soon realized her passion for getting involved had a caveat, she wanted to do more than be involved—she wanted to build relationships, she wanted to facilitate student success.
Her passion for student success was truly ignited when she became involved with Carleton’s Bounce Back, a peer mentoring program which aids struggling students who are new to Carleton. The program gave Lauren the opportunity to work with students one on one—to help them define, work towards, and achieve their academic and social goals. Lauren’s continued dedication to peer success allowed her to excel to the position she current holds, as a senior mentor in the program.
“Working with students to overcome their challenges has propelled me further into my passion for assisting them.”
This past year Lauren was appointed as the chair of the Peer Conduct Board with the Office of Student Affairs. As chair, Lauren balances upholding the values of inclusivity, responsibility, and safety while working with students to overcome the issues they face on a day-to-day basis. As a law and legal studies student, Lauren’s experience with the Peer Conduct Board provided practical experience and reinforced within her, the value and importance of effective, yet supportive governance. It is these experiences that Lauren hopes to bring to CUSA as your next vice-president (internal).
For Lauren, her Carleton is built on supporting student development and growth, a Carleton focused on accessible services and efficient governance.
On January 27th and 28th, vote Lauren Konarowski for vice-president (internal) and her team, Your Carleton!
