John Westhaver is a record-store owner, self-proclaimed musicologist, and musician in his own right. He founded his shop, Birdman Sound in 1988 as a mail order business. Now, he curates a collection of hard-hitting, hard-to-find vinyl that reveals his allegiance to all that is weird and underground.

He plays drums in the literally-titled band The Band Whose Name is a Symbol. On his long-running CKCU show, “Morning Cartunes,” he brings his tastes to the airwaves. In this documentary, Westhaver talks about his love of music, reflects on the fluke of success, and the “fucking Rolling Stones.”
