‘Tap-tap device’ makes non-verbal cues accessible for blind and low-vision musicians

It’s often said that orchestra musi- cians function on a sixth sense, know- ing when to play louder or softer with the rest of the group. However, one way musicians achieve this is by relying on quick signals from a conductor which are often visual and non-verbal, making it challenging for blind or low-vision musicians to follow along.

From farm to rink: Former Raven Allie Lehmann Looks to make hay in the PWHL

In Fribourg, Switzerland, Allie Lehmann has been living something of a double life. By day, she works as a part-time farmhand at a dairy farm in Bösingen, just outside of Fribourg. By night, the 24-year-old stops pucks for the Swiss Women’s Hockey League’s Fribourg-Gottéren Ladies. But she said her dual existence may not be a sustainable one.

We live in a constantly evolving, yet increasingly product-driven world. We often work so hard to get to the finish line without stopping to reflect on how far we've come.

For our team of student journalists at The Charlatan, we strive to take this step back and celebrate the works in progress. It's important to recognize the around-the-clock dedication, several rounds of edits and collaboration that are in the works behind every story.

We fill our spare moments with endless jokes, competitive foosball games and wellness walks, and it's all part of the process.

In this issue, we focus on the works in progress in our community, each of which takes a unique perspective on making the world a better place. We she light on the inclusion initiatives, new technologies and up-and-coming sports teams, and all the passion and dedication that goes in the final output.
