Students are investing in their student association and deserve to know where their money is going, said “Students First” vice-president (finance) candidate Hussein Al-Saadi.

Since the start of his campaign, he said he noted many students didn’t know much about the Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA), let alone how much they paid in fees to the association.

“CUSA hasn't really been active with the students with what their roles are or what they're doing,” he said.

With that in mind, he said he wanted to see more funding and support for student-initiated clubs and associations. "When we as CUSA fund a certain club or association, we're not only promoting their growth, but they are promoting us and shape our organization…hence the role of a student association," Al-Saadi said. “We have a diverse society on campus. We can collaborate and corroborate to make something huge.”

The fourth-year commerce student said he hopes to enact alternative business plans to promote the growth of student-run business such as Rooster’s and Haven Books, which are currently running on deficit.

According to Al-Saadi, his father and role model used to say “actions speak louder than words,” and that is what he lives by and is campaigning by.

“I would love to work for my people, the students of Carleton, my society. I would like to make a difference,” he said.
