Job Description: Summer Graphics Editor
The Charlatan Summer Graphics Editor is a creative part-time position with influence in visual aspects of our paper. The Summer Graphics Editor will report to the Editor-in-Chief and have a close relationship with the editorial staff. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Co-ordinating with section editors to determine graphic needs for each article as early as possible, including setting deadlines for graphics requests;
- Recruiting, maintaining contact with, supervising and training graphics volunteers;
- Assigning graphics artists for all graphics requests;
- Maintaining for each production week a section summary detailing all graphics, their assigned artists and due dates;
- Attending and contributing to all staff and editorial meetings, unless excused by the Editor-in-Chief;
- Having authority over all matters pertaining to graphics, but final authority over all editorial matters rests with the Editor-in-Chief;
- Meeting all deadlines set by the Editor-in-Chief;
- Other reasonable duties as requested by the Board of Directors or the Editor-in-Chief.
Characteristics of a strong applicant include:
- Experience creating illustrations, graphics and other visual content;
- Knowledge of Canva, Procreate and/or Photoshop;
- Knowledge of graphic design principles and best practices;
- Knowledge of the Carleton University community;
- Creative;
- Organized;
- Resourceful;
- Collaborative;
- Positive attitude.
Other Important Information:
The position requires part-time work beginning mid-June.
Job Type:
- Part-time, approx. 10 hours every two weeks
Salary:
- $170, paid every two weeks
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday, flexible working hours
Experience:
- At least one (1) year creating illustrations, graphics and/or other visual content (required)
- At least one (1) year of involvement in the Carleton community (required)
Location:
- Remote or Ottawa, Ont.
