Job Description: Photo Editor

The Charlatan Photos Editor / Staff Photographer is a creative part-time position with influence in administrative and visual aspects of our paper. The Photos Editor / Staff Photographer will report to the Editor-in-Chief and have a close relationship with the editorial staff. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining consistent contact with volunteers and other section editors;
  • Co-ordinating and photographing visuals for articles, social media and special projects;
  • Attending and contributing to all staff and editorial meetings;
  • Having authority over all matters pertaining to the photos section, but final authority over all editorial matters rests with the Editor-in-Chief;
  • Meeting all deadlines set by the Editor-in-Chief;
  • Other reasonable duties as requested by the Board of Directors or the Editor-in-Chief.

Other Important Information:

The position requires part-time work beginning in September 2025 and concluding in April 2026.

Job Type:

  • Part-time, approx. 10 hours every week

Salary:

  • $250 – $300, paid every two weeks

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday, flexible working hours

Experience:

  • At least one (1) year of involvement in the Carleton community (required)
  • At least one (1) year of experience in photography or photojournalism (preferred)

Location:

  • Ottawa, Ont.

  • No editorial staff may be involved with the executive of a political party or involved with organizing events for political parties on campus. Nor shall any editorial staff member be a CUSA, GSA, CASG or RRRA councilor or executive member, either during their term or in the year previous to their term. Nor may any member of the editorial staff be a member of Carleton University’s Board of Governors or Senate during their time on staff. They must be transparent about their involvement with any organization which would pose a significant conflict of interest.
