Job Description: Photo Editor

The Charlatan Photo Editor / Staff Photographer is a creative part-time position with influence in administrative aspects of our paper. The Photo Editor / Staff Photographer will report to the Editor-in-Chief and have a close relationship with the editorial staff. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining consistent contact with volunteers and other section editors;
  • Co-ordinating and photographing visuals for articles, social media and special projects;
  • Attending and contributing to all staff and editorial meetings, unless excused by the Editor-in-Chief;
  • Having authority over all matters pertaining to the photos section, but final authority over all editorial matters rests with the Editor-in-Chief;
  • Meeting all deadlines set by the Editor-in-Chief;
  • Other reasonable duties as requested by the Board of Directors or the Editor-in-Chief.

Other Important Information:

The position requires part-time work beginning in September.

Job Type:

  • Part-time, approx. 10 hours every week

Salary:

  • $300 – $330, paid every two weeks

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday, flexible working hours

Experience:

  • At least one (1) year of involvement in the Carleton community (required)
  • A portfolio of no less than 10 images but no more than 20 that are not altered beyond a reasonable journalistic norm (required)
  • At least one (1) year of experience in photography or photojournalism (preferred)

  • Ottawa, Ont.
