Hey Carleton! My name is Hailey Mahoney and I am running to be your next vice-president (student life).
I am in my third-year, majoring in criminology with a focus in law. I grew up in Whitby, Ontario—a small town outside of Toronto. I came to Carleton by myself without my high school friends—therefore I am passionate about creating the ultimate university experience for every student.
Currently, I sit on CUSA council as an elected public affairs councillor for the 2015/2016 school year. Furthermore, my first and second year I lived on residence and actively participated in various aspects of residence life. I sat on the Rideau River Residence Association council, I was an elected floor representative for my floors and I held the position of office manager of the Rideau River Residence Association.
In my two years on residence, I facilitated and helped organize over 56 events including a sold out concert, residence formal, multiple open mic nights, clubs and societies galas and a Shinerama fundraiser in collaboration with Mayor Jim Watson that raised thousands of dollars. I also actively participated in the RRRA elections, two years in a row serving as campaign manager to my successful teams and helped them to victory.
So what can I do for you Carleton? I want to create a Carleton Student Life section on the CUSA website so students can stay in the know about all events. Furthermore, I want Ollie’s to be about MORE than just Thirsty Thursdays—including live local bands, artists and DJ performances. I want to make Oliver’s and CUSA businesses more accessible to clubs/societies and promote inclusive events all Carleton students feel comfortable attending. On the note of inclusivity, I want to bring more diverse artists from every genre to campus, voted on by YOU! My mission is to make students feel that they can have their own version of the ultimate university experience—whatever that may be!
