The second annual Glebe’s Got Flavour festival, which showcases live local bands as well as extreme sports competitions, will take place in the Glebe’s Central Park Sept. 10-12.

Glebe’s Got Flavour is a replacement for Dancing in the Street, another festival that ended last year, and runs for a full weekend.

The festival begins at 5 p.m. Sept. 10 with a showing of the movie Hook. Sept. 11 and 12 will feature live bands, skateboarding and BMX competitions, in addition to other activities for kids, and a beer garden for adults.

“We wanted [the festival] to evolve,” said Erik Kulakowsky, one of the organizers of the event, adding that there were so many bands this year that it was impossible to fit everything into one day.

With regards to the genres of music that will be played, Kulakowsky said that there is “really something for everyone,” including ska, folk and rap among others.

Performers include The Dube Brothers, Tukan, Riot Police, The Brothers Chaffey and Love Machine Sept. 11, and Victoria Watson, Meridith Pal, T42, Katie Millington, Deadbeat Professionals, Mimi and Gabbi and Mean Tangerine Sept. 12.

Last year proceeds from the festival, totaling $1,000, were donated to autism, but this year the organizers has a different plan in mind.

“We’re going to start an artistic fund,” Kulakowsky said. “Each year it will be given to someone really involved in art or music.”

Kulakowsky said that this year they are hoping for better weather and a bigger turnout.

The festival has free admission, as Kulakowsky said he feels this is a better way to build community, giving everyone a chance to come in and see for themselves what the event is all about.
