One of the most common complaints about going out is “I don’t like the music.”

If Top 40 hits and weird remixes aren’t your favourite, there are still plenty of bars in Ottawa to try out. Whether you want to hear TLC or the Sex Pistols, an event somewhere will play it.

If you want to hear . . .

Country—try Country Night on Thursdays at The Great Canadian Cabin (95 York St.) Donít forget your plaid and cowboy hat.

Funk/Soul—the third Friday of every month is an event called Timekode at Eri Caf (953 Somerset St. W).

House/Techno—the last Saturday of the month is a party at Mugshots (75 Nicholas St.) called Ceremony. Get there before before 11 p.m. and skip paying cover!

Punk—in the Market at Overkill (56 Byward Market Sq. in the basement.) There’s never any cover! Check the Facebook page for dates.

Rock/Alternative—check out Zaphod’s (27 York St.) on a Friday or Saturday to hear popular indie rock and pop.

Throwbacks—Barrymore’s (323 Bank St.) on Sundays has Retro 80s and 90s night. A nice bonus are the $2 drinks before 11:30 p.m. For old hip-hop and R&B classics, try Shameless, on the last Friday of every month at Babylon (317 Bank St.).

Trap—the last Friday of every month is Party Pack at Ritual (137 Besserer St.) featuring trap music and drink deals.
