The Carleton Ravens competitive figure skating club competed in the Winter Invitational at the University of Toronto from Jan. 29-30.

The club had skaters compete in free skate, dance, and synchro, competing against 10 other universities from around the province, including McGill University.

With five rookies on the club out of 16 total skaters, the lineup was young. Carleton ended up finishing 11th overall as a team in the invitational.

Despite this, head coach Laura Kilpatrick said she believes they have worked hard.

“All skaters have been training hard and put out some good skates,” Kilpatrick said.

Kilpatrick said she believes the season has been going well up to this point, and added the team trains Monday to Thursday starting early at 7 a.m.

The event was held in front of a crowd of approximately 200, and Kilpatrick said it was a new experience for not only the Ravens, but many of the schools present.

“It was the first time on competition ice for many of the programs,” she said.

Lindsay Akot and Cailin McDowell finishing in eighth place in the senior similar pair, and Katie McLean had an eighth place finish in senior silver solo dance.

The Ravens will compete next in Guelph for the Ontario University Athletics championship from Feb. 18-19.
