Fahd was raised in Ottawa—the second youngest of five siblings, Fahd knows the importance of family. Fahd grew up in a lowincome neighbourhood and experienced firsthand the financial struggles many postsecondary students can relate to. The local Boys and Girls Club became a place of hope and positivity he could always turn to in his youth. It was his time there that inspired him to help the various communities and schools he would become a part of.
Fahd’s passion for helping others and being a positive community builder is present within his many endeavors. Fahd sat as a member of the Youth Ottawa Board of Directors for six years, and is currently serving as a chair and fundraiser with the Children’s Wish Foundation—helping raise over $175,000 this past year. Fahd is probably most proud of his work in cocreating the York Street Ultimate March Break Day Camp for at-risk children—a category he once fit in. Leading a team of volunteers, they raised over $43,000 and served over 200 families in the camp’s five years of operation.
On campus, Fahd is currently studying economics and political science and has always wanted to serve his fellow Ravens. In 2014, Fahd served as the co-director at Hatch, CUSA’s entrepreneurship centre, where he has helped over 15 student startups develop and grow their businesses.
As your 2015-16 CUSA president, Fahd’s focus has been on creating a new vision and refocusing the strategic direction for the organization. This past year Fahd has worked diligently alongside his team—to expand your services, support your clubs, tackle your student issues and reinvigorate your student life experience. Fahd and his team have accomplished over 85 per cent of their goals and have hit 90 per cent of Key Performance Indicators for your students’ association.
In 2013, Fahd was named one of Canada’s Top 20 under 20 and was asked to speak to 16,000 youth about leadership and community engagement at Free the Children’s National We Day event. Yet the motivation for Fahd’s unfading commitment stems from a personal root—his desire is to see everyone have an opportunity to succeed.
For Fahd, his Carleton is one that serves all students and more importantly inspires all students through leadership and innovation, in the pursuit of personal and collective growth.
On January 27th and 28th, vote Fahd Alhattab for president and his team, Your Carleton!
