The administrators of Carleton’s DC++ file sharing network apologized today after they banned all 278 users logged on to the network late Tuesday evening.

“The ban-bot just went bat-shit crazy,” administrator Captain T-Bagger said. “We really messed up this time.”

At about 10:05 p.m. on April 6, all users of the popular file-sharing network saw the same message – it said they had been banned for 60 days for sharing too many files.

“Keeping the network running can get really hard,” administrator FrankyWanker said. “We just got sick of keeping it up.”

The administrators said they will work on taking back responsibilities for the network from automated drones like the ban-bot. In the mean time, few of the avid DC++ users at Carleton will be able to access the service.

To entertain themselves in DC++’s absence, many Carleton residence students were seen lounging on campus grounds Wednesday morning, enjoying the spring weather.

“I hadn’t been outside in eight days,” DC++ user Ben Dover said. “I think I’ll take this time to improve personal hygiene.”

Other DC++ users were not so excited about its hiatus.

“Now what will I do? Study for exams?” DC++ user Al Beebawk said. “All I wanted was that last episode of Jersey Shore . . .”

The administrators said they are unsure of when DC++ will become available again. They suggested all those who have been banned should contact them by e-mail and provide their nickname as well as their real name, so that they can be re-added to the network.
