Name: David MacMillan
Program/Year: First year
Position running for: Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) councillor
1. Why are you running for CUSA council?
I’m in my 1st year at Carleton. I wasn’t sure what to expect coming to Ottawa, but students being ignored was something I couldn’t have been prepared for. I have learned a lot about being heard, safe space, anti-oppression as well as getting involved and I want to empower students to do the same!
2. What do you think makes you a good candidate?
Students need to feel properly represented, they need someone who will be held to account, and they need to feel safe on campus! I am involved with almost every service centre on campus (the GLBTQ centre, Foot Patrol, and REC Hall as well as many others like the Food Centre). The students are the school, being in Carleton’s biggest faculty: FASS, we must unite the students from all paths of life and implement positive change!
3. What are two things you hope to achieve if elected?
– I will promote the student voice! And fight for students to have to space to do so (for instance, the Muslim prayer space needs to be bigger).
– I will make sure that I am fully accessible to all students so I can serve as a conduit for them.
4. What’s one fun fact about yourself?
I’m fluent in sign language.
